Mi Ranchito! Yummmm... You haven't had the best Mexican food in KC until you've tried Mi Ranchito. Pognac's is okay, Manny's is alright, Margaritas is above decent, Jose Peppers is edible, Jalapeno's is unmemorable. Mi Ranchito's is definitely on point! I wasn't much of Mexican food eater, until I was introduced to Mi Ranchito in 2005/2006 by a coworker. Even though it is far from the Sprint campus, the lunch crowd is full of Sprint employees who all pass many Mexican restaurants on their way to Mi Ranchito's. I can't get enough of the chips & salsa - and the salsa contains cilantro! :O) Even though the prices have risen considerably since I was first introduced to Mi Ranchito's, I still think that the food is reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food. I am one of the pickiest eaters around and the steak fajitas and steak fajita burritos are high quality (no chewy fat mixed in). The white espinaca dip is to die for as well. The service staff has evolved over the years. While they are quite nice, I miss Oscar my old server from the OG days who always knew us and our orders. Back in the good ole days, occasionally we were waited on by servers who didn't speak English very well and would have to have their managers translate. I miss those days, because the language barrier somehow added to the charm of Mi Ranchito's. There seems to be a war among my coworkers about which location is better "Olathe or Old OP". Even though the food tastes identical, I vote for downtown OP as the best location, just because it was my "gateway" location into Mi Ranchito. I think the answer to the question would be which do you prefer - "new building" or "rustic charm". Service 90% Food 110% (every time) Tonight, I'm going to El Patron for dinner with friends. I'm sort of dreading going because I'm feel like El Patron won't be able to live up to the high bar that Mi Ranchito's has set. We'll see. I'll bring an open mind and an empty stomach.

food is above average mexican fare... portions are large and the margaritas are very tasty. also, the staff is extremely gregarious, friendly and accommodating - i love that they greet the patrons in spanglish as if they, the mostly mexican staff, were the ones trying to relate to the white, johnson county clientele. ("hola friends! welcome to mi ranchito!") so funny! also, our recent waitress was something of a drug-pusher with margaritas. she was very sweet and friendly and knew that we were enjoying our drinks, so it all came off as charming.

very good salsa. I got the fajita burrito which was good both times but was different each time. service at lunch was fast and great! Chips are very good too.

Just ok in terms of the food. However, rt=161 he restaurant was so dirty! There were only 2 other tables of customers when went, so it was not busy. The floor, tables, and overall atmosphere seemed so dirty that I wanted to walk out and leave. I have been to the Lenexa location. I think food and cleanliness are much better at that location. I won't go back to the overland park location again....Jose Peppers is still much better for Mexican as compared to Miss Rancho.

I frequent this location about once a week or so and must say in my humble opinion it is one of the best mexican restraunts in Johnson county. The chips and salsa are great and always fresh as well as the queso dip. I just cannot get enough of the Fajita Con Queso Enchilads with Chicken. The staff at this location is very attentive and the wait is usually not too bad.

Just went to Mi Rachito for the third time in the last 6 weeks after never having eaten there before. Two of our three visits have been on busy Friday nights with another family; however, on each occasion our group of seven was seated quickly and enjoyed a leisurely meal with good food and drinks. The house margaritas go down easily and offer a great way to unwind after a busy week. The food has been consistently good, is reasonably priced, and the portions are huge. After eating only half of the food on my gigantic combo platters and still feeling stuffed on my first two visits, I tried to go smaller tonight by ordering a starter for my meal. I still ended up bringing a third of it home. Everything I have ordered has been tasty: enchiladas, tacos, flautas, nachos, all things I would order again. My dining companions have always enjoyed their meals as well. Good service tops it off...especially friendly and accomodating to the young children in our group. I'm sure we will be back soon.

I love the food here but it was waaaay crowded and we had to wait 10 minutes for a seat which was ok. We went to the bar and had a Margarita. I had enchiladas and they were baked and delicious. Service was excellent and prices were reasonable. It's in downtown OP which is convenient for us. We will be back.

Shrimp taco, beans, rice and beer special were all great. Lunch prices were also very reasonable. Really enjoyed lunch here. The mild salsa was fair, hot was much better, but very hot. Mixed together it was perfect.

I gotta say fail on this one, went there on a recommendation and we were in the area so why not.. First I ordered the Steak fajita chimi. Then we waited 25+ minutes for them to bring the wrong food. I said I ordered the chimi not the Fajitas, the server stared at me like I was an alien. Oh I get it he doesn't understand English, I am serious I like authentic Mexican a lot but come on... Really.... So next I speak to him in Spanish and he realizes his mistake and says in Spanish it will take a while to make a Chimichanga like u ordered. I said forget it... I ate the fajita which was good the food delivered was good, but here's a kicker. There was a $2 difference in the menu item. Take a guess what I was charged for..... ThenFajita. On the way out I spoke to the manager so he knows they totally failed.......I give them two stars as the food was real good, but the service... Come on when I travel to Mexico I speak Spanish. I am not being insensitive or racist if you have to communicate with folks who are your customers please at least tell me your English Is weak, I can compensate.... I may give it another shot, but not too soon..

Love, love, love this place! The cream cheese chicken enchiladas are soooooo yummy. They are the best thing in this place, not that I have tried anything here that I didn't like, they are just my favorite. They have great lunch specials and nightly specials too. Sunday kids eat free, Monday free cheese dip, Tuesday 99 cent tacos, and it keeps going and going and so will I.

The food here was delicious, and the staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered the fried tacos, and the chile verde flautas. Both were equally awesome. They also offered the option of the smaller lunch portion of the meals even though it was past 4:00 when the lunch specials are supposed to end. I was super grateful for this though since I couldn't even finish the lunch sized portion. We would definitely eat here again.

Wow! Definitely coming back here - strong margarita, great prices, huge portions. My hubby and I each had 2 house margaritas, split their super fajitas (chorizo, shrimp, chx, and steak!), walked out with leftovers, all dropping less than $30. Amazing.

Have eaten at Ponac's, Manny's and 2 of the other Mi Ranchitos. This location is our favorite - friendly staff, great chips & salsa, and good favorful portions. The restaurant is spacious so very little waiting to be seated. Restrooms are always clean & well-maintained. Although not near where I live, I try to get here at least once a month.

The best Mexican (Americanized of course) I've had since I moved to KC! The salsa verde and chips to start were delicious. I recommend any dish that has peppers and queso...they know what they are doing here. Lunch for two was $20 w/ tip.

We came back to our "favorite" Mexican restaurant after moving out of state. What a disappointment! Bland, bland, and more bland. So Americanized it was hard recognizable as Mexican.

  • Ali A.

I love spicy spicy salsa and they have some of the best. Sometimes it is way to spicy but I force myself to eat it. You can go there with on other person and split a plate add rice and beans and only pay a dollar more than the entree price. It's cheep and good and they just expanded because of how busy they have been getting. Much better than their 95th St. Location.

Gotta love the chito. Do not expect authentic. If you are looking for queso drenched, cream cheese filled deliciousness, this is your spot. The chips are awesome and they have great salsa too.

Coming from Texas, I needed some good Mexican food, and I needed it NOW! We stopped in at Mi Ranchito based on Yelp! reviews and welp............it's freakin' amazing. They don't have some of the typical fare you get in Texas, but the food was AH-MAZZZZ-ING. The cheese dip, unmatched. I just happened to be in on $1 taco night, so that's what I had. I figured they'd be whimpy little guys and ordered 5. They let me get chicken for no upcharge. I could only eat 3 and they were better than most tacos you get in the area. Needless to say, I'll be back.....maybe every week.

A bit of a disappointment on our visit to Mi Ranchito. There are numerous 4 and 5 star reviews for this place, so I thought it would be a good place to try, since my wife loves Mexican food. We started off with the espinaca dip, at the recommendation of the server. My wife looked at me odd when I ordered it. "You realize it's a spinach dip, right?" I thought we'd at least try it. I had one taste, heavy duty spinach flavor. Couldn't get past it. My wife tried a few more. She said she couldn't get past the spice, a bit too much for her. The server switched us out for their queso dip. The queso dip was okay, not great. They advertised their queso as cheese with a 3 pepper blend of seasoning. I asked "is it too much to ask that your cheese taste like cheese?" The queso was more palatable than the espinaca dip, but still not that great. My wife did like the salsa, so that worked out at least. We then got our entrees, which was a bit of a change up for both of us. I got the chicken chimichanga. My wife got a chicken enchilada with the cream cheese sauce and a chicken taco. My chimi was pretty good. It had a red sauce on it, almost a mole. The chicken was nicely seasoned and I thought the sauce tasted fine. My wife didn't care for it. The beans were ok, but not memorable. My wife thought the rice tasted like dirt. The enchilada was interesting with the cream cheese sauce and the taco was average, but my wife was very disappointed in the rice. Overall, my wife wanted to put in a 2 star review. I upped it to a 3 star because I did like my chimichanga.

My husband and I rate a Mexican place by their chips and salsa. If those aren't great, you have to wonder about the rest. Mi Ranchito's chips and salsa are wonderful!! I had the cream cheese chicken enchiladas with avocado - what a great taste combination. My husband doesn't usually like enchiladas but he got the beef enchilada and really enjoyed it as well. Service is great and it's a friendly atsmosphere. I agree it's a little dark - I guess they are trying to keep all the traffic away from view - and that's okay too!

This restaurant hits all the boxes in my check list. It has some good food, pleasant ambiance and very friendly staff. One thing that i must acknowledge is the service provided by the girl who waited upon my table. She was very polite and kept checking upon me from time and again to ensure that i enjoyed my meal. The chips were light, warm and crispy, which were served with three different types of salsa. i love the green one. I order a bean burrito and margarita. It was one of the best margaritas i had in sometimes. The tortilla in my dish was a little too large and folded like a package which made the skin of the burrito a little thick. Apart from this, the food was amazing.

What's to say?! It's Mi Ranchito! The margaritas are awesome and deep, the chips are warm and light, and the food is always on point. The service is awesome and super-friendly. We are often here with six or more people, chewing down on chips and enjoying time with one another. They have a decent gluten-free menu for the gluten-challenged and a broad selection of dishes with a bit of Americana for the kiddos with blander palette. Yummo!

Anyone else agree that a solid indicator of a good Mexican restaurant all starts with the quality of the chips and salsa? If you do agree, then you're in luck because they have amazing chips here; thin, crispy and salty, as well as a fresh salsa that's not too spicy but full of tomatoes, cilantro and onions. For me, it's pretty easy to overdo it on Mexican food. "Oh you have good espinaca? Send some my way! Guac? Sure!" Then it's food coma city from there on out. Luckily, they have some killer salads here (Quesadilla Salad is my choice) that have grilled chicken, cheese, loads of lettuce and allow you to go hog wild on chips. It's a winning combination. Their burritos and tacos are really good as well, and I've tried about 10 things on the menu that were always consistent. This is a bit out of the way for me now, but it remains a top five spot in town and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

The Good: 1 - Service, they were really good with refilling the sodas and salsa for the chips 2- Fun vibe. Didn't try the margaritas as I had an interview the next morning but they looked tasty. 3- Warm chips and great salsas The Meh: 1 - Probably my mistake in ordering the fish tacos but the fish wasn't fresh at all. 2 - The cheese - I just can't get into the fake orange runny cheesy some Tex-Mex places serve. Tastes artificial. I would probably come back here with a big group of friends if I was more focused on the atmosphere and taking down some margaritas.

This place always has great food, but I would also like to point out how great their staff is. In particular, I would like to give Joe and the rest of the staff at this Mi Ranchito location a HUGE THANK YOU for safeguarding and returning my phone that I left there by mistake last night. You all are great!! :)

We eat frequently at this downtown OP location as well as the one at 151st and Antioch. I don't find any difference in the food between these two locations, but the 151st location is more comfortable. This is one of our two favorite Mexican food restaurants in the area (the other being Fronteras at 79th and Quivira). Everything I have had here is very good, but my favorites are the Chile Verde Carnitas, the Chile Verde Burrito (which is humongous) and the Jalisco Chimi. I absolutely love their salsa! It is fresh and very flavorful. I get the mild, but they also have a spicier version available upon request. Also, watch for coupons (Valpak) for free espinaca.

  • Stacy L.

Wow. The service was amazing. We had 5 or 6 different people come by the table to refill our waters, refill our salsa & chips, take our order, deliver our order, and give us our check. At no time did we have to wait for anything. The food? Delicious. I got the Cream Cheese Chicken Enchiladas with rice. The sauce was so good. My husband got the La Crema Chimichanga. It also had the cream cheese sauce. But, his came in a bowl and we started dipping our tortilla chips in it. So, so decadent. His chimi tasted like a philly cheese steak deep fried. I may have to get that the next time. I have to say, I was very impressed and this may be the best experience we have had at a Mexican restaurant since moving to Kansas City.

Sometimes it is hard to really distinguish one Mexican Restaurant from another. They are generally either good or bad with not a lot of middle ground. This is one of the good ones and has become our go-to Mexican place. We've now been a few times and I've always left full (sometimes too full) and satisfied. First, the basics. Their chips are really good. They are super thin and crispy and excellent. The salsa is pretty solid. The traditional salsa ("house" salsa, whatever you want to call it) is pretty straight forward and isn't bad. The biggest mistake one can make with this type of salsa is too much cilantro (i'm one of those people that thinks it can taste like soap) and theirs gets right on the line of being the right amount without going over. they also serve a green salsa that is avocado based. It is really mild and flavorful. I'm a fan of that salsa (though I'm not a big avocado guy). They have an espinaca dip you can get (usually can find a coupon for a free order of it in random mailings and crap) and it's pretty good. I generally prefer the green salsa though. I've had 3 or 4 different entrees and I have been happy every time. I had a sampler thing my first time (taquito, taco and chicken feliz thing) and it was all good. the feliz thing though? excellent! I absolutely loved it. Per usual, they all tend to come with rice and beans. I'm skip the beans (everywhere, not just here) so I've got nothing on those but the rice is fine. Nothing great, nothing bad. It's filler like at all Mexican joints. Also usually come with sour cream, guac, etc if you are into those things. Also comes with a little scoop of this corn pastey stuff that I don't know what it is called but I love the stuff. I've also had a couple different fajita options and I really liked the shrimp. Really, I think their grilled shrimp on anything would be great. It's straight forward grilled shrimp but it just comes out great and is excellent. It's a Mexican restaurant, so you aren't talking fine dining and all that stuff. But for Mexican, it is right up there with the best places in KC that I've had. The space is pretty typical. The parking is tight with a shared lot in front of the building and then wrapping on the side. There is also street parking. I'd guess at their peak times, parking might be a problem, but a little walking never hurt nobody.

my friend introduced me to this place, and i love it. it is some of the best mexican food i've ever eaten, and it has a drive-thru! LOOOOVE! get the chicken enchiladas with the red sauce and the espinaca dip. yummmm.

  • Yuleidy K.

I agree with a previous yelper, Mexican food is either good or bad, there's rarely an in between. Unfortunately for this restaurant, it was bad. The salsa was great! The cilantro could have been cut a little smaller, but it was still great! The chips were equally good. My kids got the taquitos and they were fine. It's very hard to mess those up. I got the fajitas. My steak was undercooked (I ordered it well), and I'm sure they would have fixed it, but just didn't mention it. The chicken and the shrimp were lack luster in the delicious seasonings that a good fajita has. My husband's fajitas were equally as underwhelming. Kansas City is home to some great BBQ and it is home to some great steaks, but we have yet to find a restaurant worthy of the "tex-mex" label.

My second fave Mi Ranchito. This one is a little more cramped than the one on 95th St. This is still a great location, the servers always keep my drink full and my entrees are hot! Attentive managers too! I'm always asked how my meal was. Great location!

I can't believe it took me so long to try Mi Ranchito. The first visit was with our friends who highly recommended it to us. We weren't disappointed. We have been back several times for dinner. Each time is as good as the previous visit. The chips are amazingly addictive. They are crisp and not too oily or overloaded with salt. If you're a hot salsa person; ask for it. It has enough heat but too much that you can't taste your food. The mild and the avocado are good too. I prefer the hot and more of it too. I had a very good and plentiful burrito for my first visit. But now I have ordered the carne asada tacos and haven't looked back. The meat is tender and full of flavor. I usually end up taking one taco home because just one for dinner, along with the awesome black beans, is plenty. Plus I have had my share of chips and salsa as a starter. The service is top notch. Even when they are busy on Friday evenings we have been in and out in less than one hour. They also offer to pack up extra chips and salsa with your leftovers. Score! Mi Ranchito hits the Tex-Mex spot for me.

Used to be our favorite Mexican, not anymore. They need to put in a new floor as it looks like they put stucco on the floor...looks awful and dirty. Raised prices, though. The food is pretty good, but the place looks so rundown. Also, I know two people who had their credit card accounts stolen after eating there....makes you wonder! Sad to see it go downhill like this.

To review, things that will always hurt your rating. 1. Food with no seasoning 2. Swapping top round in place of "steak" 3. Delivering a plate that will cause a 2nd degree burn if touched 4. Hot lettuce on the side 5. A dirty bathroom The queso is the only redeeming factor in this place. Service was good even though they are spread a little thin. There is nothing more infuriating than ordering a steak burrito and not getting steak, call it a beef burrito. That I could accept, there is no surprise there, but what I was served was not steak.

Attention all restaurant Owners and managers; One of the most frequently experienced restaurant mistakes. If you're going to have an illegal alien use that nasty wet towel to wipe the table off right before I sit down, At least have him take another second to dry it off too so it doesn't get all over me and my napkin, my silverware, my menu, the straw you just laid down in a puddle of whatever that disgusting fluid is and every other thing. That being said, the tacos were good enough to pull this place up to 3 stars. The server that we had probably can't even remember her name. We literally didn't get anything without asking at least 2 times. Here's an example. My wife asked for some green salsa (it's really good, it has avocados in it). The girl picked up my water glass and left. Several minutes later I had more water even though I hadn't drank from it before she took it, but no salsa. It was one of those hit and run waitress things where she slides by like a ninja and sets something on the table continuing down the aisle without giving you a chance to respond. Next time we saw her, I asked for the salsa and she walked away leaving us with the thought that she heard me correctly. funny thing is that she did not return until the food came out. Still no salsa but a fresh coke this time. I actually think the service is bad because they don't understand English. That's a whole other conversation though that would take me down a real angry road. Food is good. Service is unfortunately what is becoming average. Be careful and watch out for the slippery floor, I am pretty sure it's the same stuff they use to clean the tables.

You know, Mi Ranchito is pretty darn good. It's not the absolute BEST Mexican food I've ever had, but it's certainly a good place to go whenever you have a Tex-Mex or taco craving. In fact, the first time we went to Mi Ranchito, it was because of a taco craving, and the tacos here certainly satisfied. My husband has had the Carne Asada tacos both times, and clearly loves them, since he has yet to branch out. The taco portions, either for lunch or dinner (lunch is 1 taco, dinner is 2) are definitely tasty and filling, and at a good price. I've had both the shrimp and avocado quesadilla and the veggie quesadilla, and enjoyed both very much. I probably preferred the veggie one, especially because that bad boy was chock full of veggies, and not just beans, onions, and cheese. There were also peppers, corn, broccoli, mushrooms, and zucchini. Very good, and made me feel like I was being somewhat healthy! Their hot salsa is really good, as is the avocado salsa. I think that the mild version that they bring to the table is really only good for mixing with the hot, or topping tacos/quesadillas/whatever, so if you prefer spicy salsa, do be sure to ask for the hot. The margaritas are delicious and strong, and again, priced reasonably. Service is friendly and fast, but a little bit overbearing at times - they want you to eat a huge meal here, with dessert, even if you're just stopping in for lunch! But you can't blame them for trying, and I can overlook that as long as the food is good and the prices are reasonable. They do offer daily specials, and one of these days, I'm going to make it in for even cheaper margaritas! I will definitely be back to Mi Ranchito the next time I'm craving Tex-Mex.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this little gem in my own backyard! I will definitely be going back because their salsa is stinkin' goooood! It all starts and ends there for me. If you put tomato sauce-like goop in front of me, I will not be back. This was just-right spicy, we got an extra little cheesy dip that was so yummy, the chips were warm and crisp, and then the taco was so good!! The establishment could you a little updating but the staff was also so nice! Our waitress was so nice, joked with us, stayed on top of the water and chips, and was just an overall delight!

Good Tex-Mex food. Had the cream cheese chicken enchilada, and Carne's asada platillo there. Both really flavorful. The only reason this isn't a 5 star, is that the food is one solid note. Don't expect a bunch of different flavors on your plate all at once, but what you get is solid. However, I've been here over two dozen times and I've had GREAT service every time.

  • Melissa M.

I ate here about once a week over the summer and I still frequent it, even though it's cold and my biggest love there is the margaritas. Great espinaca dip, average salsa, but they do have avocado tomatilla salsa and that is super tasty. It's about the same as any Mexican restaurant, but the wait staff is great and friendly, they are fast, and you can't go wrong with anything you order on the menu. Taco salad is tasty, tamales are pretty good. I do love their quesadilla with steak. They have several kinds of margaritas, including peach, mango, regular lime, then occasionally they have pomegranate and a swirl margarita. Addictive!!

Outstanding Quality Mexican Food I've only been here once, but I have to tell you about this restaurant. This is part of a local chain and the kudos I'm adding to the many on Yelp already should only apply to the downtown Overland Park restaurant. A very good value - a $25 Saturday evening dinner for two including margaritas! - and nothing even iffy. First class service from the start. No charge for chips and salsa - they claimed that the chips are made there at the restaurant and they are a cut above the usual table chips. The red salsa is great & would be excellent if it was slightly spicier. They also offer a non-spicy green salsa. One of the best flavored margaritas we've ever had - we're still wondering what the secret is (we got house margaritas, not a special). We both had antojitos dishes and found them better than any KC Mexican restaurant so far. Usually the rice and beans aren't remarkable but both the black beans and refries were well above par as well as the rice which is a weak point at most Mexican bistros. The chicken enchiladas and vegetarian burrito were beyond expectation as far as the preparation and flavors. The enchiladas were among the closest to home made that I've had at a restaurant anywhere, including in L.A. Typically enchiladas are baked under sauce in a pan, usually a dozen or so. But that's difficult for a restaurant to do so they are made individually and generally don't quite get that home-made finish. I'm not sure how they do it here but they came out "Wow." The enchilada and burrito fillings were like Mexican heaven! A work of culinary art. We'll be going back and I'd have to say "Highly Recommended" to the aficionado of Mexican cuisine.

The food was great. We had the cheese dip to start with spinach and red bell pepper. It was thick and creamy and delicious. The accompanying chips were the lightest, crispest, crunchiest I have ever had. They were beyond addictive. For my entree, I went with their Friday special of crab and shrimp enchiladas with black beans and rice. The jalepeno cream sauce on top was like liquid gold. So good. I did run into three pieces of shell in my enchilada. That wasn't so fun and made each bite a little nerve wracking but the flavors were so good I couldn't stop. Another drawback was how hot the food was when it came out. Like prohibitively hot. It smelled so good that I wanted to down it all right then and there but I would have seared my mouth. I still ate it too quickly for my own good though because it was so tasty. One note about the service: we felt rushed the entire time. We sat down and had chips, salsa, and a margarita ad thrust at us all within fifteen seconds. We hadn't even had time to collect our thoughts. Then we were asked a minute later if we wanted appetizers or if we were ready to order. I still hadn't even formulated a coherent thought about the menu yet. Other than that though, things that we did order came out promptly and without much ado.

Really great food here, good service, family owned. Not the best parking situation, but hey, make it work. Major advantage? You're right next to the Rio should you want to eat before watching an indie, limited-run, probably not playing anywhere else in KC, film.

Mi Ranchito is definitely better than some of the "legendary" Mexican restaurants in the Kansas City area. I had a Pina Colada for an appetizer as I searched through the menu for something that looked appealing that didn't include beans, onions, or some other surprise that would ultimately ruin the entree for me. (Yes, I'm one of those picky eaters.) I decided on the steak fajitas and snacked on the wonderful chips and salsa until my meal arrived, sizzling like bacon in a frying pan. The steak was seasoned perfectly. The rice wasn't the best I've had, and I only had a few bites, but I wasn't there for rice. Then there was dessert: fried ice cream, no, the best fried ice cream I've ever had. Maybe it was the effects of the Pina Colada, which was also the best I've ever had, but I would go there just for the fried ice cream. I was there at 1:30 on a Sunday and it was crowded but there was no wait. I did feel a bit rushed by the wait staff.

Discovered this several weeks ago when a friend took me and have returned four times now. Very pleasant staff! Excellent chips and salsa (not too spicy, and a real treat for a cilantro lover like me). Large and very tasty portions. I am especially appreciative of their six-item gluten-free menu selections. Saves me from taking so long to scour the entire menu to find what I can eat, though they are very helpful in adapting other menu items to my needs. I decided to order from the regular menu last time and the waitress was absolutely wonderful in helping me avoid the gluten (offering corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas) and certain vegetables I am not allowed to have. She was patient and checked back with me often. From the gluten-free menu, I love them all but Shrimp & Guacamole Enchiladas swept me off my feet. Extremely generous portions.

The Goulds tried Mi Ranchito in Shawnee Mission, KS in December 23, 2009. As a preface to this review, Erin and I LOVE Mexican food, and the boys are inheriting our taste for it as well. We arrived at the restaurant at about 6:00 pm and did not have to wait. This may have been because of the date, so close to Christmas. Although, the place was fairly good sized so I suspect there is not much wait at other times. The ambiance was nothing special. Tex-mex art, booths and tables, TV's with sports. The first thing we noticed when we sat down was they gave us two bowls of chips, for our five people, and 10 cups of salsa. When we added the kids menus and crayons that they got, our drinks, and the silverware, the table was crowded. The salsa was good. It was mild enough for the kids and Erin. I asked for the hot salsa and they gave me one cup of that. It was spicy. For dinner we ordered the kids taco meal for Ian and Noah. This meal came with one taco, hard of soft shelled, beans and rice. For Adam we ordered the kids quesadilla meal with lots of sour cream ,since Adam loves to have quesadilla with his sour cream Erin ordered the fish tacos and I ordered the chicken enchiladas. We also ordered a few extra tacos a la cart for the kids in case the one taco was not enough. We also ordered house Margaritas, since the Wednesday special was $2 house Margaritas. They were very good. The food came fast. The tacos were large. They were just what you would expect, nothing special. The quesadilla was good sized too, and nothing special. Ian did eat two tacos but Noah only ate the one. The fish tacos were stuffed with talapia, avocado, tomatoes, lettuce...in a soft shell. They were good, although not earth shattering. The enchiladas had too much cheese sauce covering them and they did nothing for us. The kids meal came with a small ice cream dessert and Erin and I ordered the fried ice cream. This was the highlight of the meal, it was yummy. The service was attentive but nothing to write home about. The bill came to about $50 for all five of us, which I find reasonable. In comparison with other Mexican places in town, this was only average and probably will not earn a repeat meal from the Goulds. 10 thumbs sideways.

I can't believe that I've lived in my house for six months now and only just discovered Mi Ranchito. came here a couple of Mondays ago when I just didn't feel like cooking. my husband and I both had the soup and salad combo with different salads. the tortilla soup was wonderful and my salad was pretty yummy too. another perk... on Mondays their kids meals are only $1.99!! my little guy had a bean burrito which was HUGE for a kids meal. we'll definitely be back soon and often.

My family and I eat here pretty often, food is always delicious and a great value. Recently my husband and I had a bad experience with a server and I wrote the manager about it, to my surprise not only did he write me back to apologize, he also sent me two gift certificates. Very impressed by the gesture. One bad waiter wouldn't have kept me from returning, but how the manager responded to the issue was really outgoing and much appreciated.

Mi Ranchito in downtown Overland Park used to be my favorite Mexican Restaurant. I used to work in that area, and ate there regularly. Until recently, I hadn't eat there in many months and decided to meet my daughter there for lunch. Wow, what a disappointment for both of us. The first thing I noticed was the salsa; it was nothing more than canned tomatoes blended into a cottony, watery texture. No flavor or seasonings, couldn't see any flecks of cilantro or onion or garlic or jalapenos, just tomatoes. I asked for the Tomatillo salsa and it was marginally better. I ordered the lunch special, a Colorado something-or-other..it was so mediocre that I can't even remember the name. I asked for refried beans with my entree instead of black beans, and that was my second unpleasant surprise. It wasn't the homemade type I'd had in the past, with some beans whole and some blended and a fresh flavor. The refried beans were a pasty, thick consistency, totally blended to the consistency of peanut butter. It looked and tasted like the canned bean dip you buy next to to the chips in the grocery store. Well, like I said in the beginning of my review, Mi Ranchito used to be my favorite restaurant, but since they've gone from homemade to commercial Mexican food, I won't be back.

After reading the reviews already posted, I'm not sure that I can add any new insight, but I can certainly agree with the others. Mi Ranchito is delicious tex-mex at an affordable price. The portions are very generous; we enjoy going in and sharing one entree, as there is always more than enough. Our favorite entrée to share is the Mi Ranchito Sampler. It comes with Pollo Feliz (my favorite, cheese, cream cheese, chicken, greasy goodness!) two machaca beef tacos (served with a dollop of guac), two chicken flautas (with a yummy cream cheese sauce) half of a chicken quesadilla, and of course, beans and rice. I have also ordered the chicken tortilla soup, cream cheese chicken enchiladas, pollo poblano, and the fish tacos (not all at the same time of course). Regardless of what I have ever ordered, the food has never been a let down. I really enjoy their chips and salsa, and I'm delighted that Mi Ranchito honors mobile coupons for espinaca dip (there is always a coupon on the "Where" app). Service has always been pleasant, the restaurant is always clean, and they have some good food and drink specials (2$ margs on Monday!). Mi Ranchito is always at the top of my list when I am looking for delicious, affordable food.

We have been frequenting this place for years because of the proximity to our home. The food is cheap (so stick with vegetables as the quality of meat at that price is suspect)!! The service is, ya know, hit or miss, but all in all pretty good. The margaritas are okay and cheap enough. BUT in recent months they pulled up the floor (??) and put this weird non-skid stuff down. It looks disgusting and unfinished and weird, but it doesn't end there...the flooring issue makes the whole place smell abhorrent and intolerable. I mean for really realz, I cannot ever again eat food in a joint that smells that bad.

While Mi Ranchito will not win any design awards, they serve decent and consistent food. This location really has a odd layout. You open the door and the bar is right in front of you. It is not a place where you would want to have drinks or even wait for your table since servers and customers use this area as a pass through. Continue through the bar and there is outside seating. I love eating Mexican food outside, but the set up on the patio sort of makes you feel like you are in a kennel. The inside seating is a little more pleasing, as it is all booths. I had a skinny margarita, which was perfect. I feel like regular margaritas are too sweet. All margaritas are strong and considering the animal noises coming from the table of 10, theirs were strong too. Queso is always good here and I like their fajitas more then their enchiladas. Ask for the spicy salsa with your chips if you need some heat. I don't know why they always have to be so dramatic about your "hot Plate." This only makes me want to touch it, since everyone's idea of hot is relative. Never touched one yet that I really considered hot. They must say that for legal reasons...... Anyway, not my first choice for Mexican, but not really a bad choice either.

Mexican Ice cream? La kukaraa! I've been by this place thousands of times, to the Yarn Shop. Never stopped. Glad I did. I didn't realize the restaurant was so large. I ordered the chicken enchilada, which were not only huge, but the meat had the best spices I've had in a long time in the enchilada. I could taste the cilantro. And I loved it. You get 2 enchiladas with rice and refried beans. Unlimited salsa with thin chips. Oh so good. I ordered iced tea. It remained full. Very good and attentive service . So, I'm eating, and the waitress sweetly asks if I'd like some ice cream. Whoa, l do I have sucker written on my face? One of my most favorites of delicacies in America is it's version of Spanish ice cream. So, I ordered it, and she brings out a cinnamon taco shell bowl, full of ice cream with not just a small dollop of whipped cream, with chocolate drizzled across the top. It has a full on huge strawberry on it. I spooned into it. On the bottom of the ice cream was strawberry syrup from fresh strawberries. And the sinfullest food known to men (or women in this case)...toasted warm honey, coated on the ice cream. Orgasmic, and sinful, but I ate it. I couldn't eat all of it, and couldn't bring it home cause I was doing something else after. I will be back, if only for the ice cream. Well, when I go to the Yarn Shop, I can stop for ice cream, and I know exactly where to do it now.

Hands down the BEST MEXICAN FOOD we have ever had. If you have not gone, go now. Turn off your computer, put on your coat, and go! On second thought, print this coupon for free Espinaca Dip first, and then go: valpak.com/coupons/displ… Okay. Let's talk about what makes Mi Ranchito the best: 1. Espinaca dip (which you can always get free with a coupon) 2. Perfectly made, fresh salsa with deliciously addictive chips 3. Short wait times, despite usually being busy 4. Cream cheese chicken enchiladas (which I get with black beans instead of chicken, and they are still so yummy!) 5. Reasonable prices 6. Lunch menus/ portions 7. Daily specials 8. New menu items added often 9. Friendly, proficient service I would drive from out-of-town to come here. It's that good! Would love to see more vegetarian options in the future.

In a land of many mexican choices, I never would have thought Mi Ranchito would stand up with the rest. I mean, we've got Ponak's, Margarita's, Manny's, and a plethora of excellent choices in Kansas City. But Mi Ranchito definitely ranks up there with the others. It's a frequent lunch stop for me. The espinaca dip is delicious! Chips are always warm and perfect. But it was my last lunch that I tried a veggie option from the menu. The veggie burrito, stuffed with broccoli, mushrooms, corn, peppers, zucchini, and more was more than I expected. It was topped with a red pepper cream sauce and served with black beans and rice (cooked separately from the carnivore's rice, I was told). It was spicy and filled with so much flavor...much more than I thought it would. I will definitely be ordering that again instead of my usual chicken burrito. I think I've found a new favorite! As for the service, it's always prompt and efficient at lunchtime. I've never had to wait, even though the place is packed every time I go.

I adore mi ranchito. Love it a lot. This location is lovely - the seating is away from the door so you don't get a draft issue. The decor is festive and bright and the service is excellent. Went there for lunch with some co-workers the other day. chips and salsa were delicious as usual - the chips are crisp and light and the salsa is chunky and flavorful. I ordered the lunch special - chicken burrito with rice and beans for the sides. Huge burrito, lots of chicken (actually too much for me and I ended up scraping some out and leaving it on the side), yummy cheese sauce, etc. My lunch was $8 with tip (I drank water cause I am trying to cut out the soda - gotta keep my choppers beautiful *ding*) The only drawback for me was our server was obsequiously flirtatious and I found that to be annoying. Although he did bring us to go cups of our beverages. hrm. Maybe it was ok :) Super awesome love it ***** okaybye.

When I am craving Mexican food which is often, I love Mi Ranchito! They have the best Chili Relleno I've ever tasted. The wait staff is super friendly and the serving size is usually on the big side. If you want great Mexican that is consistent and tastes the same time after time then this is your spot. I personally like the particular location. Plus is you get the Val-Pak in the mail they always have a free queso dip coupon. Love this place!

This is my and my wife's favorite tex-mex place in all of KC. The food is always tasty and the staff is always very friendly. They really make you feel like a "regular" even if it's your first time there. The casa fajita's (beef, chicken, shrimp, and chorister, is my go-to meal but everything on the menu is great. My wife especially likes their taco salad. Also, if you check your coupons from the mail there is one in there every week for a free espinaca dip.

Service was good. The waiter seemed to be a little intimidated though. Salsa was not so good. There was like an aftertaste? Flavors were not there... I got down towards the bottom of the chips and started seeing smaller and smaller pieces. (just fyi) Tamales were good in and of themselves, but the masa mix was a little salty. The enchilada sauce (or what ever brown sauce that it is) was heavy handed with the salt shaker as well. The pork was very tender and nicely seasoned. I would say for the most part it was an ok to pleasant dining experience. I may try them again, and maybe not. The real rating is more on par with a 2.75.

Or family loves this place. The foods is good and they are not stingy with their chips and varouse salsas. The staff is always pleasant and the service is usually excellent. The best part is the price. We always walk out satisfied and the tab is usually quite low (around 30 to 40 bucks total). This is why we call it "Mi Rancheepo".

Addictive!!

Really great food here, good service, family owned. Not the best parking situation, but hey, make it work. Major advantage? You're right next to the Rio should you want to eat before watching an indie, limited-run, probably not playing anywhere else in KC, film.

We came back to our "favorite" Mexican restaurant after moving out of state. What a disappointment! Bland, bland, and more bland. So Americanized it was hard recognizable as Mexican.

This place always has great food, but I would also like to point out how great their staff is. In particular, I would like to give Joe and the rest of the staff at this Mi Ranchito location a HUGE THANK YOU for safeguarding and returning my phone that I left there by mistake last night. You all are great!! :)

We came back to our "favorite" Mexican restaurant after moving out of state. What a disappointment! Bland, bland, and more bland. So Americanized it was hard recognizable as Mexican.

Really great food here, good service, family owned. Not the best parking situation, but hey, make it work. Major advantage? You're right next to the Rio should you want to eat before watching an indie, limited-run, probably not playing anywhere else in KC, film.

Yummo!

Wow! Definitely coming back here - strong margarita, great prices, huge portions. My hubby and I each had 2 house margaritas, split their super fajitas (chorizo, shrimp, chx, and steak!), walked out with leftovers, all dropping less than $30. Amazing.

This place always has great food, but I would also like to point out how great their staff is. In particular, I would like to give Joe and the rest of the staff at this Mi Ranchito location a HUGE THANK YOU for safeguarding and returning my phone that I left there by mistake last night. You all are great!! :)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
